]]>The duo kicked things off dressed in full Trump regalia: Pershtin donned a suit and crimson tie, and Malkov wore a version of Melania’s inauguration day outfit. They stood side-by-side with their hands over their hearts as “The Star-Spangled Banner” played before launching into the rest of last week’s routine.
Malkov tore off her double-breasted suit when “YMCA” began to play, and revealed a red, white, and blue bodysuit decorated with fringe.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the performance received many rave reviews from MAGA-friendly voters on X. “Oh my the heads of the Democrat communist party are going to explode over this one. Congratulations Israel.! Job well done,” wrote one person.

]]>“That meeting was a disaster. It was an embarrassment for the United States. It was a failure,” Murphy insisted. “Putin got everything he wanted. I mean, first of all, he wanted that photo op, right? He wanted to be absolved of his war crimes in front of the world. He was invited to the United States. War criminals are not normally invited to the United States of America.”
Putin also “didn’t have to give up anything,” Murphy added, including a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine — or even have a conversation about the possibility.
“President Trump said he wanted a ceasefire. It appears the ceasefire wasn’t even seriously discussed. And then, third, there’s no consequences. Trump said, ‘If I don’t get a ceasefire, Putin is going to pay a price,'” Murphy said. “And then he walked out of that meeting saying, ‘I didn’t get a ceasefire. I didn’t get a peace deal, and I’m not even considering sanctions.'”
Rubio offered an opposite take. Putin and Trump “agreed … that the best way to end this conflict is through a full peace deal,” he insisted. “There’s no doubt about that. I mean, who would be against the fact if tomorrow we came to you and said, ‘We have a full peace deal and it’s done,’ I think that’s the best way to end the war.”
He continued, “Now, whether there needs to be a ceasefire on the way there, well, we’ve advocated for that.”
After Welker played a clip of Trump noting, “I want to see a ceasefire rapidly. I don’t know if it’s going to be today. But I’m not going to be happy if it’s not today,” Rubio attempted to reroute the conversation.
“Well, first of all the Russians are already facing very severe consequences. There’s not a single sanction that’s been lifted, not one. I mean, they’re facing all the same sanctions that have been in place today,” he said. “All the American support continues to Ukraine. And ultimately look, if we’re not going to be able to reach an agreement here at any point, then there are going to be consequences, not only the consequences of the war continuing, but the consequences of all those sanctions continuing and potentially new sanctions on top of it as well.”

]]>Colbert will “evolve and shine brighter than ever in a new format that he controls completely,” O’Brien insisted. And “technology can do whatever they want” in terms of changing the landscape of television, even “make a television pill.”
“It can make television shows a high protein, chewable, vanilla-flavored capsule with added fiber. It still won’t matter,” O’Brien continued. “If the stories are good, if the performances are honest and inspired, if the people making it are brave and of good will, then somewhere, two weird siblings huddled in their crowded living room just off Route 9 outside Boston are going to be moved.”
O’Brien began his speech by recalling a childhood spent with his brother Neil, an unabashed fan of TV. And though “streaming changes the pipeline” through which series are delivered into homes and minds, he said, “the connection, the talent, the ideas that come into our homes, I think it’s as potent as ever.”
The late night host pointed to the audience as proof positive, and cited series like “Severance” and “Andor” to support his point. The reality of TV in 2025 is that “it’s all electrifying a new generation of viewers.”
“Yes, late night television as we have known it since around 1950 is doing to disappear,” O’Brien admitted, “but those voices aren’t going anywhere.”
Colbert announced the end of his late show in mid-July. Since then late night ratings have surged, and Colbert has managed to get in a few jokes that surprised even his audience.

]]>Speaking with “Politics Nation” host Rev. Al Sharpton on Saturday to promote the Denzel Washington film “Highest 2 Lowest,” Lee said the Trump administration’s federal law-enforcement takeover in Washington, D.C., wouldn’t go quite the same if the president tried it in New York City.
“This country right now is … it’s bananas, and this and this guy trying to take over D.C. and just weaponize these things,” Lee said. “And I mean, he’s going to think twice [if he tries] to do that in New York though. The Boogie Down? Harlem?”
Sharpton agreed, saying that it would “be a different kind of reaction.”
Chuckling with glee, Lee responded: “Oh yeah. It’s gonna be very different.”
Sharpton asked Lee what he thought about Trump mobilizing federal agents and National Guard troops “in heavily Black and brown cities with Black mayors,” given how Lee has portrayed authoritarian law enforcement throughout his films.
“They’re weaponizing these other agencies of the United States government,” Lee said more gravely. “And this is — this is a scary time. The last word in ‘School Daze’ … my brother … Lawrence Fishburne saying, ‘Wake up!’ And the first line in ‘Do the Right Thing’ you know — Samuel Jackson saying, ‘Wake up.’ So we need to wake up. We need to wake up. You know, it’s some serious times and we gotta be on point and just be in the moment and see this three-card-monte game — watch the black, watch the black, watch the black! … you can’t win.”
“Highest 2 Lowest” is in theaters now.

]]>Newsweek reported Martinez, who is well-known on TikTok for posting videos that document several ICE arrests, was filmed on Friday seated in her Tesla when agents opened her car door and pulled her onto the pavement. She also appeared to experience a medical event during the arrest, and at one point onlookers are heard demanding treatment for her.
The arrest was also briefly interrupted by a man who attempted to tow one of the police cars in the arrest.
“He mocked and videotaped ICE officers chasing after him,” McLaughlin also told Newsweek. “Secretary Noem has been clear: Anyone who seeks to impede law enforcement will be found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Martinez was initially transported to White Memorial Hospital and is currently being held in a detention center in downtown Los Angeles.
On Thursday, Los Angeles Rep. Jimmy Gomez accused ICE of staging an empty migrant detention center.
“One person was talking to the Mexican consulate who happened to be there, and the other person was just in the cell with their head down on a table or on the table or something. He was just kind of sitting there,” Gomez said of the center he visited recently.
Gomez also questioned why the center was so empty despite the numerous arrests made recently. Nearly 2,800 people have been taken into ICE custody since early June.
“They’ve been running raids, even over the weekend, and all of a sudden there’s no one there? That’s just completely bizarre,” he told MSNBC’s Jen Psaki.

]]>The post State Department Papers Found on Alaska Hotel Printer Include Sensitive Details of Trump’s Summit With Putin appeared first on TheWrap.
]]>The eight pages, prepared by U.S. staff and left behind in the business center at Hotel Captain Cook, bore U.S. State Department markings and were later found by three guests who declined to be identified, NPR reported.
The papers included precise meeting times and locations for the Friday summit inside Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, as well as phone numbers for American government employees, according to the reports. Three hotel guests found the documents around 9 a.m. and took photos later reviewed by NPR.
The first page outlined the sequence of meetings, including the specific rooms where they were to take place, and noted Trump’s plan to present Putin with an “American Bald Eagle Desk Statue.”
White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly on Saturday dismissed the documents as a “multi-page lunch menu” and said their discovery did not constitute a security breach. The State Department declined to comment.
Other pages contained the names and phone numbers of three U.S. staff members, as well as 13 U.S. and Russian officials, along with phonetic guides for Russian names.
The documents also described a luncheon “in honor of his excellency Vladimir Putin,” thought he lunch was ultimately canceled. The papers included a seating chart that placed Putin across from Trump, who was to be flanked by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles on one side; Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Special Envoy for Peace Missions Steve Witkoff were seated on the other.
Putin was to sit alongside Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov. The menu called for a green salad, filet mignon and halibut olympia, with crème brûlée for dessert.
Jon Michaels, a UCLA law professor who specializes in national security, told NPR the discovery illustrated a lapse in judgment by administration officials.
“It strikes me as further evidence of the sloppiness and incompetence of the administration,” Michaels said. “You just don’t leave things in printers. It’s that simple.”
Earlier in the week, a law enforcement group chat that included members of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement mistakenly added a random participant to a discussion of an ongoing manhunt. In March, national security officials inadvertently included a journalist in a group chat about pending military strikes in Yemen.

]]>Luna brought up the topic on Wednesday’s “The Joe Rogan Experience,” a clip from which “Gutfeld!” played Friday night:
“They call them interdimensional beings,” Luna said. “Very credible people have reported that there have been a movement outside time and space. Have I seen a portal? No. Have I seen a spaceship personally? No. Have I seen evidence of this? Yes. Have I seen photo documentation of aircraft that I believe were not made by mankind? Yes.”
Namesake host Greg Gutfeld took the first swing.
“Finally!,” he said. “There you have it! Proof. Proof that maybe somebody was told something from somebody who saw something that might be something from another dimension or something!”
Judging by the audience laughter, they weren’t convinced, either.
“We do have an expert here, Harland [Williams, the comedian who starred in the 1997 film “Rocket Man”], you were an astronaut in the film where you went to Mars … Harland, do you get the feeling they have nothing they just like teasing us?”
Williams noted that we’re told extraterrestrial beings are “way more smart, more intelligent than us,” but still come to Earth and do … crop circles.
“It’s like, we’re smarter than everybody, let’s go to Earth and do donuts in the corn,” Williams joked.
Fellow panelist Michele Tafoya noted that she’s watched “Ancient Aliens” on the History Channel – which can make you think, “maybe.”
“And are we really the only intelligent life out there?,” she said. “I don’t know. But Anna Paulina Luna is not the representative who makes me convinced.”
Williams joked that he’s witnessed “this time and space kind of thing” when he flies on American Airlines: “I get to the terminal and my flight it seems to shift about five hours.”
Gutfeld made the analogy that the UFO issue which “is like a bad boyfriend who strings you a long and offers you nothing forever. But when he called you for a booty call you always answer. Like the issue he is always there but never follows through,” calling them “recreational beliefs.”
For her part, regular panelist Kat Timpf said that full disclosure should be offered to anyone on their deathbed.
“When you are about to die they should let you see whatever documents you want to see,” she said. “You know how there is like last rites? There should be some sort of portal you can log into at the hospital, were pretty much everybody dies, and you can login and see what you want to see.”

]]>In a clip making the rounds online, CNN’s guest John King said, “Only if they announced a total ceasefire, air, land, ground, would that be acceptable to Ukraine? Otherwise, we’re going to keep going and keep going, but we’re going to know in a few minutes,” before Cooper added, “Let’s go back to Jake in Anchorage. Jake?”
“I’m fine. Just give me my show back!” Tapper was caught saying before Cooper jumped back in with, “The show’s back!”
A startled Tapper continued, “All right, here we go. So, let’s go now to Senator Schiff who we have here. Senator Schiff is joining me, ready to go in — the senator — the Democratic senator from California.”
Tapper was anchoring live from Alaska as Donald Trump welcomed Vladmir Putin to the United States Friday; Cooper was anchoring in Washington, D.C., and multiple control rooms were involved in what turned out to be a simple technical problem.
“We’re having real comms problems today. I’m sorry about that. If anybody can hear me, let’s go throw it back to New York,” Tapper noted later in the broadcast.
During a segment on MSNBC the same day, Foreign Policy editor-in-chief and MSNBC contributor Ravi Agrawal and host Katy Tur mocked Trump for rolling out a “literal red carpet” for Russia’s president.
“That way that he embraces and lights up when he sees Vladimir Putin, [who is] not our ally, who we have a hostile relationship with, is so different, and I think it’s so hard to understand,” Tur said.
“If you are any leader anywhere in the world right now, you’re looking at this and you see two things,” Agrawal added. “One is that the rules don’t matter. Friendships don’t matter, democracy doesn’t matter.”

]]>The post Bill Maher Takes Credit for Possibility Trump Might Reshedule Marijuana: ‘And They Said It Wasn’t Smart to Have Dinner With Him’ | Video appeared first on TheWrap.
]]>Will it actually happen? We have no idea. But given how legalization is incredibly popular across political lines in America, and also given his current historically low popularity, Trump being able to take credit for something pretty much everyone wants would be a smart move.
But watch out, because there’s someone else ready to step in and take the credit for himself: Bill Maher.
During his monologue on Friday’s “Real Time,” Maher, a very, very well known lover of cannabis, took a victory lap over these reports, and then he jokingly credited his much-criticized dinner with the president for it.
But before he got to that topic, Maher joked about Trump’s meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.
“What it’s all about is trying to end this horrible war in Ukraine,” Maher said. “We’re going on for too long, and Trump and Putin, they finally said, ‘look, let’s just meet thug to thug’… So they’ve already met. They figured out the plan. They drove in the car, just them and the translators, very romantic. Then we’ll see. And then they had a working breakfast, and then what they call a bilateral lunch, that’s where the chef comes out and carves up Ukraine.”
You can watch that portion of the monologue below:
The monologue continued thusly, until Maher told his audience, “I saved the best story for last. Marijuana. You’ve heard of it? Well, it’s forever. It’s been a schedule I drug, which to all US potheads and any reasonable person is really just such a stupid thing. It’s in there with the worst sort of horrible drug, like heroin. Trump is considering reclassifying it as a much less dangerous Schedule III drug. And they say it wasn’t smart to have dinner with him.”
It should be noticed that the possibility of rescheduling cannabis actually began under Joe Biden. The former president announced plans in May, 2024 to change it from Schedule I status — which dishonestly classifies it as equivalent to heroin, cocaine and similar drugs — to the much less severe Schedule III. Alas, like a lot of other things the Biden administration announced, this job was left unfinished when Biden left office.

]]>The post World Leaders Are Ridiculing Trump for Rolling Out ‘Literal Red Carpet’ for ‘War Criminal’ Putin, MSNBC Says | Video appeared first on TheWrap.
]]>During a segment on MSNBC Friday, Agrawal and host Katy Tur explained that leaders around the world take note for how Trump “lights up” and treats Putin when the two are together. That compared to how the president treats democratically elected representatives is more than a little telling.
“That way that he embraces and lights up when he sees Vladimir Putin, [who is] not our ally, who we have a hostile relationship with, is so different, and I think it’s so hard to understand,” Tur said.
“If you are any leader anywhere in the world right now, you’re looking at this and you see two things,” Agrawal said. “One is that the rules don’t matter. Friendships don’t matter, democracy doesn’t matter.”
Agrawal continued: “And America, which stood up for these things—stood up for the rules-based order—didn’t sign up to the ICC and has a war criminal on its soil, has mistreated democratically elected leaders, but welcomes Vladimir Putin with a robust handshake and a literal red carpet, which you do not see with other leaders in the same way. That symbolism is very important for Putin back home, but also very important for other leaders around the world as they look at what gets valued and what doesn’t.”
It is not just world leaders giving Trump a hard time for how he treats Putin and their endlessly memeable relationship. “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon took a few shots at the pair and their meeting location in Alaska on Thursday.
“Trump’s meeting with Vladimir Putin is almost here, and today, Trump warned that Russia will face severe consequences if Putin doesn’t agree to end the war,” Fallon said as he teed the bit up. “You have severe consequences? Putin responded, ‘Like, what, a second meeting? Forget this.’”
Fallon continued: “Trump is hosting Putin at a U.S. military base because it’s peak tourist season in Alaska, and the options were limited. This meeting could end a war, and Alaska’s like, ‘Oh, sorry, but the Marriott conference room is all tied up with a rotary club salmon retreat. What are you doing?”
