Senior Director of Social Media

Job Description:
TheWrap, the leading digital-first news organization covering the business of entertainment and media, is seeking a dynamic and creative Senior Director of Social Media to lead the day-to-day execution of our social platforms. This role requires a balance of strategic thinking, creative storytelling, and data-driven decision-making to grow our audience, increase engagement, and drive traffic and visibility for our editorial and branded content.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Platform Strategy & Execution: Develop and implement platform-specific strategies across X/Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky and Threads to maximize engagement, grow followers, and reinforce TheWrap’s brand identity.
  • Creative Content Production: Collaborate with creative, editorial and video teams to package content in compelling ways; write eye-catching copy, create visual assets, and produce short-form video as needed.
  • Analytics & Optimization: Monitor performance using tools like Sprout Social, Chartbeat and native platform insights. Use findings to A/B test captions, visuals, and posting times to optimize performance and increase visibility.
  • Branded Content Execution: Coordinate and publish branded social campaigns, ensuring alignment with client objectives while maintaining TheWrap’s voice and editorial standards.
  • Trendwatching: Stay on top of social media trends, memes, and algorithm changes to inform strategy and keep TheWrap ahead of the curve.
  • Live Events Coverage: Cover live events like awards shows, film festivals and red carpets with speed, efficacy and the ability to multitask visual and written assets in real-time.

Qualifications:

  • 3–5 years of professional experience managing social media accounts for a media outlet, brand, or agency.
  • Strong creative sensibility and writing skills, with a keen eye for packaging content for digital consumption.
  • Deep familiarity with analytics platforms and a demonstrated ability to interpret data and act on it.
  • Experience working on branded content or sponsored campaigns, ideally in a media environment.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom environment.
  • Knowledge of entertainment, pop culture, and media industries is essential.

Bonus Points For:

  • Experience with social video editing tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere, CapCut, Canva, Opus, etc.)
  • Comfort and experience conducting red carpet interviews.

This is a Los Angeles-based role with four days a week required in the office.
